Being a lifelong Leicester City fan, my fascination with the club has always led me down memory lane and beyond, (probably to understand why Leicester had never won the football league championship or the FA cup through it's 119 year history). The book Of Fossils and Foxes is certainly the bible by which nearly every detail of the clubs history is well documented, however this DVD comes as a very welcome addition to the charting of the club’s great and turbulent past.
When I first heard that this DVD was being produced I was sceptical about whether the production team would give it the care and attention needed to cover 119 years of history in just over 2 hours. I wasn’t disappointed.
Gary Newbon (a proud Leicester supporter himself) does a magnificent job narrating Paul Taylor’s detailed and interesting script.
Among the highlights of this DVD for me was
- the archive footage of the early matches at Filbert Street,
- interviews with Leicester players and fans (old and new)
- extended footage of the classic matches (Luton’74, Shrewsbury ’82)
- the interview with Martin O’Neill , just because he obviously still shows affection for the club
The only omission to the documentary that was apparent to me was footage of Leicester’s very brief but prominent campaigns in the UEFA cup (esp. against Athletico Madrid where we were beaten by the ref).
Nevertheless if you only ever own one video/ DVD on Leicester City F.C., this should be it!! Recommended!!
