On August 28th we climbed the 5 pitch E9 7a first ascent live on British TV for 6 hours, topping out 30 seconds before the end of the scheduled broadcast. Sron Uladail is the most overhanging cliff in the UK, 130 metres high, 50 metres overhanging. The pitches were E7, E9, E7, E6, E5 and the last pitch proved to be the second crux of the route being soaking wet in a traditional Scottish rainstorm. The route (‘The Usual Suspects’) turned out to be the hardest multipitch mountain route in the UK. Climbers and non-climbers alike sat and watched our progress non-stop for the whole afternoon, wondering, as we were, if we would succeed right until the very end of the broadcast when we topped out, soaking wet, knackered, but ecstatic.
