Persipura vs Kuwait SC
Quarters Final Second Leg AFC CUP
FIRST HALF
SECOND HALF
Having seen his team secure a hard-fought home win over Persipura Jayapura in the first leg of their AFC Cup quarter-final, Kuwait Sports Club coach Abdulaziz Hamada is expecting another battle when the defending champions visit the Indonesian side for the return match on Tuesday.
Kuwait SC's quest to win a third consecutive AFC Cup title nearly
came unhinged during the first leg in Kuwait City when Persipura
recovered from conceding an early goal to Chadi Hammami to take a
surprise 2-1 lead through Lim Jun-sik and Gerald Pangkali.
They trailed until six minutes from time when a quick brace by
substitute Ali Al Kandari turned the tie back in their favour and gave
them a 3-2 lead to take to Indonesia for the second leg.
But while his team now have the lead, Hamada knows that they cannot
take their opponents lightly at the Mandala Stadium in Indonesia's
eastern-most province of Papua.
"This will be a hard game. We respect Persipura but we will work hard
to win the game to get the place in the semi-finals," said the Kuwait
SC coach, whose team arrived in Jayapura after a long and exhausting
trip from the Middle East.
"All 18 of our players are in good condition to play tomorrow. The
long trip from Kuwait to Jayapura made our players tired but it is okay
because they are ready to play a good game. We won the first leg so we
have big chance to go to the semi-finals.
"Persipura are a good team, they have a good counter-attack, and we must watch out for their wingers who have good speed."
While Kuwait SC had to delay their departure for Indonesia because of
a league match against Al Salmiya last Friday, Persipura have had a
week off since the first leg to prepare for the game.
And after their fine display in the first leg coach Jacksen Tiago
believes that his players can break new ground for Indonesian football
in the AFC Cup.
"I hope we can make history and got to the semi-finals as we will be
first Indonesian club that can reach that stage of the AFC Cup," said
the Brazilian (pictured).
"I respect my players for how they performed in the first leg and I hope we can play better and win the game.
"All of our players are ready to play tomorrow, we are playing at
home and we have big chance to win. We know Kuwait SC are a big team but
this is football and we will work hard to win and make history for
Indonesia."
